Why should somebody buy “The Social Enablement Blueprint”?
by Rob Durant
On the latest edition of The Digital Download I announced the launch of my new book, “The Social Enablement Blueprint: Stop Pitching! START SELLING”
I was asked, “Why should somebody buy your book?”
My answer: “Honestly, they shouldn't. They should know these things already.”
Maybe you feel about your social media presence the way I did when I was first introduced to the IGNITE Social Selling& Influence sales methodology: I should already know this inherently.
But I didn't. Not in a detailed way. Not in a way where I was comfortable taking regularly repeated action.
I had an idea of how to be sociable in the real world, but I didn’t know how that translated to social media. And I didn’t know where to begin.
“We all have this FOMO. We know we're supposed to be on social media, but we don't know how, we don't know what, we don't even know why.”
Learning from Simon Sinek, the approach I have adopted with the book is to start with “Why”. From there I explain “How” and “What” it takes to find success with social media.
The book shares a very prescriptive process to describing and executing the 3 basic tenets of IGNITE:
• Be Approachable,
• Be Sociable, and
• Be generous
With practical examples of how to complete each.
For instance, being approachable involves creating a profile that is more than just a digital resume or CV. It requires showcasing your personality and interests, making it easy for others to connect with you.
Why would I do that? How would I do that? What would I do? It’s in there.
Being sociable means proactively building a network. It's about reaching out and connecting with others in your industry and beyond. Why? How? What? Again, it’s in there.
Generosity on social media translates to sharing content that is helpful to your network and your industry. Guess what? It’s in there.
Right now, social media platforms look more like media platforms than they do social platforms. Stop shouting at me. Stop pitching!
The more people who hear our message, the more sociable these platforms will become.
I’d like to change my answer to the question.
“Why should somebody buy your book?”
Everybody should buy this book, because everybody can better leverage social media platforms.

Beyond the Show: Insights from the Panel
Social Enablement in Marketing
This week’s “Beyond the Show” insights are from Tracy Borreson
Today on The Digital Download, we celebrated World Enablement Day. And while people are mostly talking about sales and revenue enablement, I couldn’t help think about how this plays out in Marketing, and what is creating an environment of disablement that we need to enable 😉
So, I pulled some insight from Rob Durant’s new book, "The Social Enablement Blueprint" and came up with what’s causing the disability, and what we can do about it.
We’re talking about being Approachable, Sociable and Generous.
For all three, there’s an over-arching issue in that Marketers are not REQUIRED to be any of these things on a daily basis. And I know this just by looking at what marketers are being measured on. We’re being measured on volume, mostly. So that’s what we DO.
But volume alone doesn’t create any of these things.
INTENTION does.
So, how can we be more Approachable, Sociable and Generous in our Marketing?
We can be more Approachable by allowing the marketers to be SEEN. And once they’re being seen, we can layer in being HUMAN.
We can be more Sociable by measuring SOCIAL interactions, or an EXCHANGE of ideas and thoughts through conversations.
We cab be more Generous by taking away our stupid website forms and allowing our people to freely give value.
So, on this #WorldEnablementDay, I encourage you to take a look at your marketing efforts and ask yourself the above question. And you JUST might take your first baby step toward enabling your Marketing Team 💖
